Lampas With Colour

Colour has always intrigued me. From being able to change a traditional lampas structure with colours to enable different movements with the eyes, my aim within this section is to add a twist of perception on a double cloth.

Trials shown have been carefully coded and dyed using cotton to potentially be pushed further to start adding different effects to the samples. I wanted to work with simplistic and traditional methods within these pieces to let the colours talk for themselves!

Development for Final Scarves

Through development with the previous samples, I developed a lampas structure containing two different weights of cloth, enabling the draping and weight of the final sample to resemble a lightweight but contain the details of colour play from the previous fabrics. Each carefully planned out scarf is handwoven with 100% Silk, containing a layer of hand-dyed, with minimal water and dye wastage, and a layer of deadstock yarns to highlight the colour changes.

Through exploring the first trials of this structure to the final pieces, I wanted to show the design ideas of double cloth and where these stripes are formed.
